THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSEB has installed an electric post as a shackle for a business establishment at Kamaleswaram. KSEB's action comes after the water department's action of unloading big pipes in Anayara became controversial. The electric post was installed in front of the shoe shop in Valiyaveedu Lane, Kamaleswaram. Despite complaints from traders, the authorities did not back down from the decision. Trade has not been going well for months due to road construction. Electricity department has installed the post when the situation is in such a bad condition already. Construction of a flood control drain is going on in Kamaleswaram as part of an 8-crore project. Big pits are being dug in front of the shops on both sides.
Earlier it was a big pipe in place of the drain. The idea of changing the posts along with this work is what's causing trouble for the traders. Instead of fixing the large iron posts to the wall of the drain with concrete, another concrete slab was placed in front of the shop, cutting off the traders. The KSEB authorities have assured that the post will be replaced later after the traders of the area questioned the action of the authorities. However, they also point out the practice of charging the applicant himself for changing the post. Posts have been placed in front of many establishments similarly. Since the construction of the drains has started, there are frequent power outages in the Kamaleswaram area. Traders also say that KSEB has not taken any action despite complaining against it.
