THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cremation of Vakkom Purushothaman, who passed away on Monday, will be held with full official honours at 10.30 am today at Kadavilakathu, Vakkom's ancestral home. After a public viewing at the DCC and KPCC offices, the body was taken from the capital in a funeral procession. After the public viewing at Attingal, the body was brought home in the evening at Kadavilakathu, the ancestral home of Vakkom. Leaders like opposition leader V D Satheesan, KPCC president K Sudhakaran, UDF convener M M Hasan will attend the funeral ceremony. On behalf of Kerala Kaumudi, Chief Editor Deepuravi visited the KPCC office and presented the wreath. Deputy Editor and Bureau Chief A C Reji and Political Correspondent C P Sreeharshan were also present.
The body of former minister and speaker Vakkom was brought to the DCC office from his residence in Kumarapuram yesterday after 11 am in a specially prepared ambulance. Minister Antony Raju, DCC President Palode Ravi and others offered their last rites. After the public viewing there, KPCC reached the headquarters around 12.15 pm. All the leaders who were in Delhi to discuss the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala paid their last respects here. KPCC President K Sudhakaran, Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan, A K Antony, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, UDF convener M M Hasan and others hoisted the party flag. Speaker A N Shamsir, MP Adoor Prakash paid their last respects and many Congress workers and members of the public came to pay their last respects.
