MUVATTUPUZHA: The police have registered the arrest of motorist Anson Roy in the case of killing a female student while she was crossing the road in front of Nirmala College. Charges including culpable homicide have been imposed against the accused. Anson will be produced in the court after collecting evidence in the morning.

Anson, who was injured in the accident and was being treated, was brought to the police station from the hospital yesterday afternoon after being discharged. The arrest was registered after that. Fearing strong protests from students, Anson was not taken to the accident spot and evidence was not collected. The police reached the college and collected information from the principal, eyewitnesses and those who took the student Namitha, who died in the accident, to the hospital.


The Motor Vehicle Department had found that Anson Roy did not have a learner's license. The motor vehicle department and the police checked his bike kept in the premises of the Muvattupuzha police station. The modified bike does not have a silencer and the side mirrors and crash guard have been removed. The authorities said the front part of the bike was completely damaged in the accident.


Namitha (20), a final year undergraduate student and daughter of Raghu of Valakam Kunnakkal Vadakkepushpakam and Girija, died in front of Muvattupuzha Nirmala College on July 26. Meantime, another student, Anushree Raj, who was undergoing treatment after being injured in the accident, has been discharged from the hospital.
