MALAPPURAM: The preliminary autopsy report indicates that Tamir Jiffri, who died while in police custody in Tanur, was beaten up. The cause of death will be known only after the chemical lab report. Plastic wrappers containing a crystal-like substance were found in Tamir's stomach. The substance is doubted to be MDMA.

Tamir Jiffri, who was detained in a drug case, died last day. Five accused, including Tamir, were caught with MDMA from Tanur at 1.45 am. He complained of physical problems while in the lockup. The police said that he was taken to a private hospital around 4:30 but he died.

The relatives were informed about this five hours late. Malappuram SP said that they will investigate if there is any lapse in police procedures. Crime Branch DySP will also investigate as it was an unnatural death. A magistrate-level inquiry has also been initiated into the incident.
