THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala had bid adieu to senior congress leader Vakkom Purushothaman. He was laid to rest at his family house in Attingal at 12 noon with full state honours. He died at his residence in Kumarapuram on July 31. He was taking rest due to old age ailments.

Vakkom Purushotham was the former governor of Mizoram and Tripura. Vakkom, a three time state minister, two time speaker and two time MP, joined the Congress at the insistence of R Shankar. He was a leading lawyer in Thiruvananthapuram before. He had often recalled the great support given by Kerala Kaumudi and its editor K Sukumaran at that time.

He was born on April 12, 1928 as the eldest of 10 children of Bhanu Panikkar and Bhavani. His wife is Dr Lilly Purushothaman, former joint director of medical education department. He was staying with his granddaughter Anju, daughter of his eldest son Biju Purushotham (late).
