THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said the party does not have a stand against religious beliefs. While talking to the media, he said they are not against any faith or religion. Govindan responded amid controversy over Speaker A N Shamseer's statement.
He alleged that Shamseer's statement is being misinterpreted and trying for communal polarization. Govindan added that efforts are being made to saffronise history and asked the Congress leaders opining on it to read Nehru's book.
The CPM has no objection in making offerings at Ganapati Temple. You have to examine yourself that you are not turning the offering into a political weapon. He said they disagree with many things that the believers uphold. Govindan said the Prime Minister acted like a parikarmi in the construction of the Ram temple and asked whether such a stance is correct in a country like India.
BJP talks for Congress and the latter admits what the BJP says. The CPM is a party that protested to go to the temple. Govindan clarified that he does not intend to apologize or correct anything.
‘Shamseer is absolutely right. This is what Shashi Tharoor said earlier. This is what Nehru also said. Now let's see what Satheesan has to say,’ he said. Govindan added that withdrawal thinking should be changed.
'The Indian Prime Minister and not Shamseer, who said that Lord Ganesha became what he is today through plastic surgery. Apart from Ganesha myth, is it science? The believers can live according to their faith,’ Govindan told the media.
