NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi will not apologize for the defamation case related to Modi remarks. This was informed in the counter affidavit filed in the Supreme Court. He also pointed out that the complainant is misusing the law. He alleged that the lower court proceedings are against the previous Supreme Court judgments. Rahul has filed the counter affidavit in the Supreme Court with only two days left to consider the case.
Last July 21, the Supreme Court considered Rahul Gandhi's appeal seeking to stay the verdict of guilty in the defamation case. However, Rahul Gandhi's disqualification has not been granted a stay. The Supreme Court also issued a notice to the complainant Purnesh Modi and the Gujarat government. The court said that the case will be considered again on August 4.
The incident related to the case took place on April 13, 2019, at an election rally in Kolar, Karnataka. Rahul's controversial statement was 'Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi ... how come they all have Modi as common name. How come all the thieves have Modi as the common name?'. BJP MLA and former minister Purnesh Modi filed a defamation case against this. The complaint said that Rahul's remark was tantamount to insulting everyone named Modi.
