THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced in a Facebook post that the Kerala government has implemented measures to combat the surge in consumer goods prices across the country. Supplyco stores have maintained price stability for the eighth consecutive year due to interventions aimed at curbing inflation. Thirteen essential consumer goods are still being sold at 2016 prices, resulting in the government incurring an additional liability of Rs 40 crore every month.
In Kerala, approximately 93 lakh people hold ration cards, with about 55 lakh individuals visiting Supplyco stores for their purchases. These stores offer goods at half the market price for many essential items. Fast Moving Goods (FMG), Sabari products and other branded items are available at discounts ranging from 5 to 35 percent. Additionally, the government initiates special markets during major celebrations. The Facebook post also mentions that the government is currently preparing to launch state-wide Onam markets.
