KOLLAM: Two persons have been arrested for sexually assaulting a foreign woman in Karunagapally after giving her alcohol and rendering her unconscious. The arrested are Cheriyazheekal natives Nikhil and Jayan. The accused sexually assaulted a 44-year-old American woman.

The incident took place two days ago. The woman was on a visit to Amritapuri. The accused befriended the woman while she was sitting on the beach near the ashram. Later they asked her if she wanted a cigarette. When the woman refused it, they lured her with a bottle of alcohol and took her on a bike to a nearby deserted house. The two then sexually assaulted her. The accused sexually assaulted the woman after rendering her unconscious by giving her too much alcohol.

After regaining consciousness, the woman reached the ashram and informed the authorities. The woman, who was admitted to the hospital, lodged a complaint at the Karunagappally police station. Police arrested the accused on Tuesday night. Karunagappally ACP is in charge of the investigation.
