MUVATTUPUZHA: Anson Roy, who was accused of hitting and killing a female student while she was crossing the road in front of Nirmala College, has been remanded for 14 days.

Anson Roy, who was undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College, was taken into police custody yesterday after he left the hospital. Later he was brought to Muvatupuzha station and arrested. He was produced in the court after conducting medical examination this morning. Charges including culpable homicide have been filed against the accused.

Fearing strong protests from students, Anson was not taken to the scene of the accident and evidence was not collected. The police reached the college and collected information from the principal, eyewitnesses and those who took the student Namitha, who died in the accident, to the hospital.

The Motor Vehicle Department found that Anson Roy did not have a learner's license. The motor vehicle department and the police checked the accused's bike kept in the Muvatupuzha police station premises. The modified bike does not have a silencer and the side mirrors and crashguard have been removed.
