KANNUR: A tenth class girl's complaint that a four-member group in an omni van tried to abduct her sent locals and the police into a frenzy. After hours of investigation, it was learned that the story was concocted by her to avoid going to school.
The incident happened yesterday morning around 8.45 am at Kunhippally in Kakkad. The 15-year-old girl complained that while she was going to school in the morning, a group of four in a black omni van tried to abduct her. She said that they tried to kidnap her on the road going to Pallikunnu from Kakkad. The girl also claimed that she somehow escaped from their hands. This led to a tense situation and the locals and the police conducted an investigation focusing on the CCTV.
However, it was found that no omni van passed the road at the time mentioned by the girl. ACP T K Ratnakumar said that after checking the CCTV footage of the Unity Center in Kunhipally, this was clear. The police examined the CCTV footage from 8 am to 11.30 am. Only one omni van passed through Kunhipally. However, that vehicle, on the other hand, did not enter the road leading to Pallikunnu and went straight. Later it became clear that vehicle belonged to a nearby school. The colour of this vehicle was not black as the girl said. The police also took a statement from the driver of this vehicle.
When the investigation reached this point, the police questioned the girl again. The girl then admitted that what she said was a lie. ACP K Ratnakumar, City Police Inspector Biju Prakash, Town Police SI C H Naseeb and others led the police to search for the assailants mentioned by the girl.
