PALAKKAD: The forest department is all set to perform surgery on Palakkad Tusker 7 (PT 7) caught from Dhoni. The surgery led by expert doctors is to restore the elephant's vision.

Expert doctors led by chief veterinary officer Arun Zakaria examined PT 7 the other day. The elephant has completely lost its right eyesight. The forest department decided to perform the surgery after there was no change despite giving medicine.

The forest department handed over the medical report of the elephant's vision loss to the committee appointed by the high court a few weeks ago. The forest department caught PT 7 found roaming in the areas of Dhoni, Mayapuram and Mundur areas and damaging crops for four years on January 22, and then kept the elephant in a specially made elephant cage. The medical report said the elephant lost its vision when tranquilized and captured.
