THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Responding to the claims that VIP vehicles caught by AI cameras in the state are being exempted from fines, Transport Minister Antony Raju on Thursday said the allegations are false. The minister informed that 29 people's representatives were caught by AI cameras for traffic violations in one month. "The vehicles of 19 MLAs and 10 MPs were caught on camera for traffic violations. Of these, one MP violated the law ten times and one MLA seven times. There are 328 government vehicles in this", he said. The minister also said that steps have been taken to collect fines from them.

"A notice will be sent to the people's representatives after the passage of the law. If necessary, they can appeal to the offices of the Transport Department. Otherwise, the fine will have to be paid on the next day itself", he added. The minister has released a month's worth of law violations but did not name the MPs or MLAs.

At the same time, the minister also informed that from now on, to renew the insurance of the vehicles, the fine for traffic law violations should be paid. "Insurance can be renewed only by those who have fully paid the existing fine. Discussions will be held with insurance companies for this", Antony Raju said.

The minister said that after the installation of AI cameras, the number of deaths in road accidents has reduced significantly.
