KOCHI: Former Principal Secretary M Sivashankar, who served under the Chief Minister and is involved in the Life Mission case has been released from Kakkanad Jail. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court and was released today. The Division Bench of the Supreme Court approved a two-month bail on the grounds of health issues. However, the bail comes with strict conditions, stipulating that this period should solely be utilized for medical treatment. Sivashankar's family arrived to secure his release from jail for the purpose of receiving medical attention.

His release was delayed until today due to the order not reaching Kakkanad Jail on time. The bail was sanctioned to enable him to undergo spine surgery and receive treatment for other health ailments. The decision was based on the assessment from Ernakulam Medical College which indicated the necessity of the surgery.

A bench comprising of Judges A S Bopanna and M M Sundaresh has mandated that he remains within the confines of the house and the hospital where his treatment is being carried out. This bail has been granted after 169 days from his initial arrest by the ED on February 14th in connection with the Life Mission case.
