THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Antony Raju has said that a new mechanism will be in place to submit complaints regarding AI camera fines. "Even if the penalty is imposed by mistake, one will be able to use an online system to challenge it. The online grievance redressal system will be operational from September 1.", the minister said.
"Seat belts are mandatory for all vehicles registered since 1994. Seat belts will be mandatory for drivers of heavy vehicles and cabin passengers from September 1", the minister said at a meeting to review the operation of the AI camera.
The minister added that after the installation of AI cameras, which is a flagship project of the transport department, the number of deaths due to road accidents has reduced significantly. "The number of people injured in road accidents in July 2022 is 3992. In July 2023, the number of people injured in road accidents decreased to 3319. 32,42,277 violations were detected from June 5 to August 2. Action was taken for 15,83,367 violations. Challans were issued to collect fine for 3,82,580 violations. Rs 25 crore 81 lakh has been received through e-challan.", he added.
