VIZHINJAM: In a gruesome accident, a man’s hand was amputated after it got stuck inside the concrete mixing machine. The incident happened near Vizhinjam and it was Poovar native Arunkumar(31) who went through inexplicable suffering for more than one hour.
The team was working on Vizhinjam Road as part of the Corporation's initiative to concrete the alleys of the premise. Arunkumar decided to clean the insides with a plastic bag without switching off the machine. While cleaning, the plastic bag got stuck between the wheels, and shockingly his hand was also caught in the mesh. The locals and the workers tried all possible ways to help him out but failed. The fire force later informed Vizhinjam police about the predicament. The fire force also tried to break the lock of the machine but couldn't crack it. Later Dr. S Amina from the social health center reached the spot and sedated Arun's hand to amputate it later.
His right palm was later found crushed into shreds inside the machine. Arun writhed in pain and bled for an hour and was comforted by the workers who gave him glucose and water frequently. He was later taken to the medical college hospital in an ambulance. It was on Wednesday that Arun reached Vizhinjam for concrete work along with nine others. He was in charge of operating the concrete mixer.
