NEW DELHI: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju told the Rajya Sabha that India's first deep-sea manned mission 'Samudrayaan' will be realized in 2026. Three people will be sent to a depth of 6000 meters in a submersible vehicle called 'Matsya 6000' to study about deep sea resources and biodiversity. This will be done without disrupting the ecosystem. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4,077 crore for five years. 'Matsya 6000' has been designed and developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai.
