NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will consider Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s plea in the defamation case today. The plea filed in the apex court mentioned that he has not made any defamatory remarks and so there is no need to tender an apology.

If the court accepts Rahul's demand to stay the verdict finding him guilty in the Modi reference, his MP post will be reinstated. The court is of the view that it can take a decision on the stay only after knowing the stand of the petitioner Purnesh Modi and Gujarat government.

The stand to be taken by the bench consisting of Justices B R Gavai, P S Narasimha and Sanjay Kumar will be pivotal. If there is a difference of opinion in the three-member bench, the decision of the majority will prevail. Rahul was sentenced to two years in prison by the Surat Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in a defamation case in March last.
