MUMBAI: A rare event in the history of justice took place in the Bombay High Court as Judge surprises everyone with a resignation announcement. Justice Rohit Deo, who has given verdicts in important cases, announced his resignation in an open court.

The judge announced his resignation after he apologized to everyone present in the court. He said that he could not work against his self-esteem and hence was announcing his resignation. But he clarified that he sent his resignation letter to the President due to personal reasons.Rohit Deo was a member of the two-judge bench that acquitted former Delhi University professor Gokarakonda Naga Saibaba, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for alleged Maoist links. Rohit Deo resigned with two years of remaining service.

Justice Deo was appointed as an Additional Judge in 2017 while serving as the Advocate General of Maharashtra. He was promoted to Permanent Judge in April 2019. He was supposed to officially retire on December 4, 2025.
