NEW DELHI: After India imposed restrictions on the import of laptops and tablets, leading companies have stopped imports to India. Companies such as Apple, Samsung and HP have temporarily stopped importing laptops and tablets in India. The companies' response is that the central government's sudden decision to require a license to import into India has hampered the industry. Meanwhile, the central government has announced that the new law will come into force after November 1.

Major companies are also reportedly looking to start local manufacturing and avoid licensing confusion. Tech companies are also trying to get import licenses.

Efforts are being made to bring imports back to normal before Diwali, India's biggest selling season. Meanwhile, Apple and Samsung are not ready to respond to the reports regarding this. With the new regulation in India, which is one of the largest markets in the world, the launch of many new products is likely to be delayed. This is expected to lead to shortage of foreign companies' equipment in India and increase in prices.
