bribe

KOZHIKODE: Former sub-registrar convicted in a bribery case has been dismissed from service. Beena, who was caught by the Vigilance in a bribery case while she was the Sub-Registrar of Chevayoor, Kozhikode, was dismissed. On June 26, 2020, the Kozhikode Vigilance Special Court found her guilty.

After being caught by the vigilance in the case, Beena was under suspension. The suspension continued even after the conviction. She was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of more than five lakh rupees. Then Beena approached the Kerala High Court with an appeal. After being released on bail, Beena replied to the show-cause notice received from the departmental level and asked the departmental level not to dismiss her as an appeal had been filed.

She claimed that she is innocent in the case and that she can prove this in the High Court. But according to the rules, it was decided to remove Beena from the service at the department level. The notification also states that if the High Court finds her not guilty, she will be reinstated in the service. In 2014, the vigilance caught Beena taking a bribe of Rs 5000.
