NEW DELHI: On the first day of the videography survey conducted by ASI inside Gyanvapi mosque, the officials photographed images of Hindu symbols including Trishul, and Swastika found engraved on the walls of the mosque complex.

On the first day of the survey which was on Friday, the archaeologists mostly surveyed the symbols on walls, domes, and pillars and studied the construction style used for the mosque. The security was beefed up during the time of the survey.

The first day’s survey took almost seven long hours to complete. The survey team consisted of 41 members, including 37 from the ASI and other expert teams from IITs. On Saturday, the survey resumed at morning 9 a.m. and continued up to 12:30 p.m. The survey will restart after 2:30 p.m. and will go on till 5 p.m. in the evening. Today, the underground chambers of Gyanvapi will be subjected to detailed survey. As per media reports, many Hindu idols are assumed to be housed safely in the underground chambers of the mosque.

The survey is being conducted as part of the district court's order to bring veracity to the claim that the mosque was built by demolishing a part of the Kashi Vishwanath temple at the behest of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the 17th century.
