THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Child Rights Commission has banned excursions from tuition centres. The action was taken after a complaint was received that people were travelling in violation of the guidelines. Night classes conducted by tuition centres ahead of exams have also been banned. The ban is because night classes increase stress on students.
According to various complaints, many tuition centres do not follow the guidelines set by the Education Department for student excursions. The commission has assessed that the tuition centres conduct excursions without the teachers accompanying them and at the expense of huge sums of money. The order states that students should not be forced to go on excursions in tuition centres as they are taken on excursions from schools.
Rene Antony, a member of the Commission for Child Rights, pointed out that excursions from such institutions should not be allowed as there is no accurate information about who is even running many of the tuition centres. In the order, the Child Rights Commission has instructed the government to submit a report on the action within sixty days.
