THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Enforcement Directorate has seized villas and land from the former vice president of the Popular Front in Munnar. The ED has taken control of four villas and seven acres of land in Idukki Munnar owned by N K Ashraf, a resident of Kothamangalam. Assets worth 2.53 crore rupees have been frozen.
In September of the previous year, the central government had banned the Popular Front due to its involvement in terrorist activities. The ED's investigation has also revealed that the Munnar Villa Vista Private Limited Company was established to illegally move undisclosed money from foreign countries. The ED's actions are in line with this revelation.
Recently, NIA confiscated the Greenvalley Academy in Manjeri which was under the control of the Popular Front. The NIA has confirmed that the academy spread across 10 acres was used for both weapons and sports training. Moreover, there were instances of testing explosives.
