THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Labour Department has launched a campaign to collect information on all migrant workers arriving in the state. The registration process through the 'athidhi' portal will start tomorrow at the state level. Labour Minister V Sivankutty has suggested that the labour department officials should work on a war footing basis to complete the registration of migrant workers.
Not a single migrant worker should go unregistered on the portal. Labour department officials should pay special attention to this. If necessary, the registration process will be completed in a timely manner by involving more officers and volunteers in collaboration with other departments. The minister also said that they will consider setting up registration help desks at railway stations where migrant workers congregate. It has been decided to speed up the registration process by providing necessary facilities at labour department offices, work sites and labour camps across the state. Migrant workers, their contractors and employers can register workers.
The name and information should be registered using the mobile number on the portal athidhi.lc.kerala.gov.in. Instructions are available in local languages on the portal. The process will be completed after the Enrolling Officer verifies the personal details provided and allocates a unique ID to the worker.
Labour Commissioner Arjun Pandian informed that the department aims to collect accurate information and ensure social security of migrant workers. He informed that the unique ID obtained through athidhi portal registration will be made mandatory for all benefits including Awas insurance and contractors and employers should ensure registration of workers. The Athidhi mobile app designed to make migrant labour registration easier is under finalization. He also clarified that once it comes into effect, the workers will be able to register their names on the portal or the app.
