THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The daily wages of workers in the Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme implemented by the state government have been increased from Rs 311 to Rs 333. The increase comes after the central government's Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme raised the daily wage to Rs 333, with retrospective effect from last April.
On March 23, the Union Ministry of Rural Development increased the wages of workers under the National Employment Guarantee Scheme to Rs 333. Principal Director of Local Government Department M.G.Rajamanikyam wrote a letter to the government after the demand to pay the same wages to the Ayyankali Employment Guarantee Scheme workers doing similar work. After that, the order was increased.
A model for the country
Ayyankali Employment Guarantee is a model scheme for the country. In the financial year 2022-23, 41.11 lakh working days were there. Rs 113.93 crores were given as wage. Dairy farmers have also been included from 2019-20.
