MALAYANKEEZHU: In a dispute over who should care for their elderly mother, her children abandoned her by the roadside. Vishalakshi (85), a native of Karuvilanchi in Valappil Moongode, was left stranded on the road by her children. Vishalakshi, whose husband had passed away has two sons and two daughters. She had been residing with her elder son.

The sons work as daily wage laborers while the daughters are housewives. Around three o'clock yesterday afternoon the two sons brought Vishalakshi to the elder daughter’s rented house in Cherupara, Peyad. However, the daughter declined to take in her mother. Consequently, the sons left their mother on the road in front of their sister's house. Vishalakshi lay on the roadside for hours as the gate of the house was locked.

Panchayat member T Usha and Valappilsala police contacted the daughter and attempted to convince her but their efforts were in vain. Vishalakshi was transferred to Valapillashala Social Health Center for temporary care. The Valapillashala police are aiming to resolve the issue by summoning the four children this morning.
