THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Malayalees in Bengaluru and Chennai will find it difficult to reach home and return during Onam season. All the seats in trains from both places to Kerala were full in the days near the Onam holiday.
As the waiting list in the sleeper class in the trains has increased, the booking has been stopped. This is also the case with some other classes. Some trains have a waiting list of over 200. Although there is usually a long waiting list, there is hope as many people cancel their booked tickets. But it is very less likely during the festive season like Onam.
Many of the Malayalees in Bengaluru and Chennai is planning their return home after Thiruvonam on Friday.
Private buses from Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram charge Rs 1200 to 1500 on other days. Now it is Rs 1700 to 3400. From Chennai, the fare is up to Rs 3640. KSRTC bus fare from Bengaluru is Rs 1456. There is no KSRTC bus from Chennai. If more KSRTC buses are plyed and special trains are allowed, the Onam journey will be smooth.
