NEW DELHI: ISRO has released the first images of the moon from Chandrayaan 3, after it entered the lunar orbit last day.

Chandrayaan 3 entered the moon's orbit at 7 pm last night. The Chandrayaan 3 probe was lowered into the Moon's gravitational field at the ISTRAC centre at the Operation Mission Complex in Bangalore.

On August 1, Chandrayaan 3 left the Earth's gravitational field and reached the point where it orbited the Moon, but did not enter the Moon's gravitational field. After reaching here, it started descending towards the moon. At 11pm tonight, the orbiter will lower further and bring the probe closer to the moon. The orbit will descend five times. The lander module will be released from the probe on August 17. In the following days, the lander module will check the best place for a slow landing on the moon. If the place is found, the landing circle will be increased. At 5:47 PM on August 23, the lander will slowly descend on the South Pole of the Moon. Later, the door on the lander will be opened and the rover will descend on the lunar soil.

Chandrayaan took off from Sriharikota on July 14. This is India's third lunar mission.
