KOZHIKODE: A man has been arrested for brutally assaulting and injuring his pregnant wife. The Thamarasseri police arrested Bahavudeen Althaf (30) of Kanimangalam in Thrissur. He was produced in the Thamarassery court and remanded.

The incident happened last Friday. In his brutal harassment, his wife, who is two months pregnant, suffered fractures on both her hands and legs. The woman is presently undergoing treatment in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The two got married in last October. He had assaulted his wife earlier also. Police said that he is an accused in several criminal cases.

The relatives of the woman said that he used to harass her in the name of dowry. Althaf had sold all her gold given during marriage. His family had also mentally harassed her in the name of dowry. Her relatives said that he would abuse her in the name of extra-marital affairs. Her family said that they recently came to know that Althaf is also an accused in drug cases.
