LUCKNOW: A renowned craftsman from Aligarh has fashioned a 400 kg lock for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The impressive lock was meticulously crafted by Sathya Prakash Sharma, who is celebrated for his handcrafted locks.
Sathya Prakash, a devout follower of Lord Rama undertook the creation of the world's largest lock by hand investing months of dedicated effort. He intends to present this lock to the Ram Temple this year. In the meantime, the Sri Rama Janmabhoomi Theerth Temple Committee has reported receiving numerous daily offerings from devotees. They diligently inspect the locks and keys to ensure their suitability for use.
Sharma shared that his family has been engaged in lock-making for over a century. He proudly mentioned that Aligarh, often referred to as the ‘City of Locks’ (Tala Nagri), has been renowned for crafting locks for over 45 years. Sharma also conveyed that he fashioned the grand lock and its accompanying key with the vision of the Rama Temple in mind. The lock measures ten feet in length and 4.5 feet in width, with a thickness of 9.5 inches. Complementing this, the key spans a length of four feet. Currently, Sharma is enhancing the style of both the lock and key.
Sharma reflected that the creation of this lock was an endeavour driven by deep affection. He shared that his wife, Rukmini also contributed to the construction process. Rukmini added that they initially crafted a lock measuring six feet in length and three feet in width. However, based on advice from others, they opted for a larger version. Sharma disclosed that the resources for the lock and key were sourced from his personal savings amounting to around two lakh rupees. The Ram Temple is set to open its doors to devotees in January of the upcoming year.
