KOCHI: The High Court has requested an explanation from the government regarding the petition filed by the NSS seeking the dismissal of the case against the Namajapayatra that took place in Thiruvananthapuram. The petition was submitted by Sangeeth Kumar, the Vice President of NSS. Justice A Raja Vijayaraghavan presided over the hearing of the petition today and will review it again on Friday.

The petitioner is urging for the cancellation of the case registered by the Cantonment Police against him and around a thousand recognized NSS workers. In this case, Sangeeth Kumar is listed as the primary accused. The allegation pertains to an incident where under the leadership of the Thiruvananthapuram NSS Karayoga Union, a group assembled unlawfully for a Namajapayatra near Palayam Ganesha temple at 5:30 pm on August 2nd. Slogans were vocalized from vehicles using microphone sets without proper permission, resulting in disturbance to both pedestrians and vehicles. The case further states that despite multiple requests to disperse, the NSS workers remained unwilling to leave until 8:30 in the evening.

The charges in the case include unlawful assembly, rioting, obstruction of a public road, failure to comply with police instructions and creating noise. However, the petition asserts that the gathering near the Ganesha temple was a peaceful protest, devoid of raised slogans with only prayers to Lord Ganesha being recited. The petition also highlights that there were no actions causing road obstruction.
