VIZHINJAM: The government is favouring special projects for facelifting Vizhinjam Junction and Kovalam as part of the touted coastal highway project. According to officials, the government has mooted a plan to make Vizhinjam and Kovalam go international by the finish of the coastal highway project. The survey stones have been laid in Vizhinjam as part of land acquisition.
The coastal highway project connecting Vizhinjam Junction is being undertaken keeping in mind the huge rush expected in the coming years as part of Vizhinjam port completion. A roundabout will also be constructed in the main junction. Meanwhile, the road that turns into Kovalam Beach will be given a needed makeover to attract more international tourists.
The road from Adimalathura to Mukkola-Vizhinjam-Kovalam will be widened for coastal highway construction. The survey stone laying has been completed on the premises.
Shop owners near Vizhinjam have received orders from officials to vacate their shops.
