THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in the Assembly that the central government and the Sangh Parivar forces are raising the demand for a uniform civil code as part of a strategy to divert attention from the real-life problems of the people. The aim is to bring the Hindu communal chaturvarnya law to suppress everyone following other religions. CM submitted a resolution against the Uniform Civil Code and said that the Sangh Parivar has the Manusmriti Law in mind and not the General Civil Code mentioned in the Constitution.
Whenever general elections are approaching in the country, moves to change relevant issues are common. Sangh Parivar's moves against all Indian values should be countered with utmost vigilance. The earlier political form of the Sangh Parivar raised the argument during the constitutional debate that Manusmriti was the best model. There were no qualms about disapproving the constitution when it was framed around 1950 either. The attempt today is to restructure the Indian social structure on the terms of Manusmriti. Sharia, Muslim Personal Law and the Constitution do not find a place anywhere in the content of their discussion.
Dismantling all symbols of Indian secularism is one of the goals the Sangh Parivar has announced to achieve before the RSS centenary in 2025. The demolition of the Babri Masjid was one of them. The special status of Muslim-majority Kashmir was abolished. The idea of replacing the Constitution with Manusmriti is the third one. The people who want to unify the civil laws made divorces in Muslim community alone a criminal offence. Those who say that the laws should apply to everyone also argue that citizenship cannot be given equally to everyone, the Chief Minister said.
