THRISSUR: A Malayali diver went missing while cleaning the bottom of a ship anchored in the Fujairah Sea. Thrissur native Anil Sebastian(32) is a veteran diver having more than 10 years of experience in the field and is ranked one of the best in India. On Sunday, Anil entered the hull of Aeris Marine, owned by a Malayali businessman, to clean the bottom of the ship.
Anil works as a supervisor on the ship and was one of the very few allowed to undertake the cleaning work since it was deemed very dangerous. On Sunday, Anil decided to do the work by himself since the other workers were less experienced such that the Malayali diver was hesitant to push them into the risky job. Even after the scheduled time, Anil failed to appear back on the surface which forced the ship authorities to seek the help of the Fujairah Police.
Police divers and Fujairah Coast Guard are conducting the search. The oxygen cylinder attached to Anil's body is the only hope that could sustain his life. There are many dangers awaiting in the hull of the ship and the authorities fear the presence of certain machines that can suck the body inwards.
Anil lives in Fujairah with his wife Tessy and a 4-year-old child.
