KALLAMBALAM: An elderly man died tragically after the scooter he was on was rammed by a police van at Navaikulam Thattupalam on the national highway. The old man was the pillion passenger on the scooter driven by his daughter-in-law. The deceased has been identified as N Sreedharan Pillai (72) died of SD Bhavan, Kadampattukonam. The two wheeler was hit by the police van, of Alappuzha police headquarters , while going from Kadampattukonam to Kallambalam. The van was going to Thiruvananthapuram. Both were thrown away by the force of the collission. Both of them were wearing helmets.
The accident happened around 11 am yesterday. Sreedharan Pillai died on the spot. The seriously injured daughter-in-law Unnimaya was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The body of Sreedharan Pillai, which is kept in the mortuary after the post-mortem, will be cremated in the home compound today after his son Sreejith arrives from abroad. Sreedharan Pillai was an employee of a private cashew factory in Tamil Nadu. After retirement, he was active in public service and was a member of the Ilangam temple management committee.
