THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The assembly session was cut short in the wake of the bypolls announced in Puthupally constituency. The assembly will adjourn tomorrow and will convene again on September 11. It will convene for four days and then will adjourn on September 14. The decision was taken in the legislative advisory committee meeting held here today.

The session was earlier decided till August 24. Polling will be held in Puthupally on September 5. Onam vacation will start on August 24. If the session continues, it will be difficult for the MLAs and ministers to attend the election campaigns. In this situation, the government and the opposition agreed to cut short the assembly session.

Meantime, the congress has requested to postpone the by-elections in Puthupally. People from different parts of the state will come for the Manarcad festival and the Congress requested to postpone the elections considering the heavy rush. The party submitted an application to the election commission and the district collector in connection with it.

People will flock to Manarcad from September 1 to 8. There will be traffic snarls. Four polling booths are located in schools near the Manarcad church. The Congress has requested to change the date as it would be very difficult to hold the election on the festival day.
