NEDUMBASSERY: A migrant worker has been arrested for attempting to kill an old man who was sleeping by hitting his head with a piece of wood. Badaruddin (78), a retired BSNL employee who was seriously injured in the attack has been admitted to the intensive care unit of Amrita Hospital, Edappally.
The accused, Manoj Sahu (42), a native of Farsagaon, Chhattisgarh, was caught by the locals and handed over to the Nedumbassery police. The incident took place at eleven o'clock on Monday night. Badaruddin was sleeping on the bed in the room leading up to the house. His wife, son and family are at home. Son and daughter-in-law were not sleeping. They were behind the house. After jumping through the front gate, the accused took a piece of wood from the yard and entered by opening the door which was not locked. After the incident, the accused, who ran away, was caught by the locals from a distance of half a kilometre.
The accused was produced in Angamaly court. The investigation is being conducted under the leadership of Inspector S Sanuj and Sub-Inspector T S Jayan.
