THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Albeit the opposition’s surprising decision to not move ahead with the monthly salary controversy of Veena Vijayan, MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan from UDF turned an anomaly as he put up a lone fight raising the controversy, only to see disquiet even from UDF sections. However, no MLA from UDF came with support to Kuzhalnadan and it reeked more about the involvement of UDF leaders in the controversy.
MLA said the government practises nepotism with impunity and accused them of serious corruption charges too. However, by this, Speaker A N Shamseer intervened in the monologue and stymied further talks from Mathew. The speaker warned MLA Kuzhalnadan about the seriousness of the allegation and stopped him saying the assembly was not the place for rabble-rousing. Kuzhalnadan shouted back at the speaker and raised the bias shown in cutting short his questions and not allowing him to speak.MLA later came with more requests to talk but the speaker arbitrarily pointed out that the rule doesn’t allow the MLA to speak further.
MLA turned irate and showed his vehemence at the speaker. He said the truth can't be shrouded for so long. Mathew Kuzhalnadan told the media that the speaker, who was not deterred by any issues or talks concerning Ministers, stopped his speech fearing any mention of the chief minister and his daughter.
At the same time, the CPM secretariat said the controversy connecting Veena Vijayan’s monthly salary was a sham.
