THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has acknowledged that he received funds from CMRL. Chennithala clarified that he accepted the funds during his tenure as KPCC president for the party's use. He emphasized that no favours were granted in return and he was unaware of the specific purpose of Kartha's donation.
Chennithala made it evident that he hasn't evaded the matter. He labelled the transaction as a contribution and highlighted that the funds were directed towards the party's benefit. Chennithala stated that he would not engage with V M Sudhiran's comments.
Recently, the Income Tax Dispute Resolution Board revealed that Chief Minister's daughter, Veena Vijayan was receiving a monthly salary from CMRL. In the beginning, the opposition seized upon this issue fervently. However, as the identities of the fund contributors emerged, the enthusiasm waned. When the Income Tax Department requested more details, the names of Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala and P K Kunjalikutty also surfaced. Subsequently, the UDF retracted their stance.
