CHENNAI: The Egmore Court in Chennai has sentenced yesteryear actress and former MP Jayaprada to six months in jail and a fine of Rs 5000. Apart from Jayaprada, the court also sentenced two other persons in the case related to the management of a theatre.

The issue started after the management of the theatre owned by Jayaprada failed to pay the ESI share of the theatre employees. Following this, the employees filed a complaint against the insurance company. Subsequently, the insurance company filed a case against Jayaprada and others at Egmore Court.

Jayaprada has acted in over 280 films across several languages. She acted in Malayalam films such as 'Devadoothan' and 'Pranayam' starring Mohanlal.

Actress Jayaprada entered politics through Telugu Desam Party. Later, she joined the Samajwadi Party. She joined BJP in 2019.
