NEW DELHI: The Chinese Navy has again made provocative incursions into the Indian Ocean. A Chinese spy ship docked in a Sri Lankan port amid India's displeasure. It is reported that the ship docked at Colombo for a three-day visit. The Lankan Navy has informed that the vessel will return tomorrow.
Last August, a similar situation arose at Sri Lanka's Hambantota port. The Chinese spy ship Yuan Wang 5 came to Hambantota port that day, causing concern to India. The Yuan Wang 5 arrived at the Chinese-controlled port to refuel. The spy ship, capable of capturing signals up to 750 km range, has a system to monitor missiles and even satellites, which has raised serious concerns even for the Indian defence sector.
The reason behind the security threat was that nuclear power plants and space exploration centres in South India were within the surveillance range of the spy ship. Although Yuan Wang 5 arrived at the assurance that it would not engage in surveillance activities, India defended itself by deploying satellites and warships to shield the signal.
