KOTTAYAM: Controversy surrounds the Facebook post of CPM State Committee member Adv. K Anilkumar, claiming that the state government had to intervene to ensure treatment for the late Oommen Chandy. The CPM is making serious allegations including the assertion that there was a family dispute over inadequate medical care. Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan retorted using strong language stating that the CPM is conducting a campaign of low standards. He dismissed their tactics of using third-tier leaders and deemed them unworthy of a response. Satheesan further stated that Chandy Oommen should be free to visit the church where his father's grave lies. He insisted that there was never a situation necessitating government intervention in Oommen Chandy's treatment as his family ensured he received the best care. Satheesan noted that Chandy's wife and children made medical decisions in consultation with the Congress party.
Chandy Oommen reacted by expressing his hurt over the CPM's claim that Oommen Chandy was denied proper treatment but he chose not to engage with it. He clarified that the church had not engaged in election campaigning. He explained that attending the church until 41 days after death is part of posthumous rituals and people continue to visit to pray at his father's grave and offer condolences. Chandy Oommen also said that the church event was not intended for media coverage.
