NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has invalidated the stringent requirement of 75 percent marks in board exams for admission under the sports quota. A bench comprising Justices S Ravindra Bhatt and Arvind Kumar clarified this stance. The court took a firm position against the provision introduced by the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. The Supreme Court overturned the judgment of the Punjab-Haryana High Court, stating that the action was unjust and discriminatory. The Court emphasized that the sports reservation quota for admission to educational institutions aims to promote sports and sportsmanship. The Court's decision is based on a petition filed by a student who was denied admission due to not meeting the 75 percent mark requirement in the 12th-grade examination.
