KOZHIKODE: Cyber Police has identified the accused in the case of extorting money from a native of Kozhikode through AI technology. The accused is Kaushal Shah (41), a resident of Usmanpura, Ahmedabad. He extorted Rs 40,000 from PS Radhakrishnan, a resident of Palazhi, Kozhikode, a retired senior manager of Coal India Limited, by making a fake video call of his colleague.
The accused was identified after the investigation conducted in Goa and Gujarat. Police searched the house of Kaushal Shah, the owner of the bank account to which the money was sent, and affiliated institutions. Relatives were interrogated. His parents said that he was already involved in various cases and was thrown out of the house 5 years ago. He has opened several accounts to deposit the stolen money. Police say that most of these were opened using the names and Aadhaar cards of slum dwellers. Police also found that the WhatsApp call to Radhakrishnan was made using the number of Jitendrabai, a native of Ahmedabad.
