NEW DELHI: The new criminal procedure rules also have provisions to protect the rights of the victim, including in cases of abuse. A copy of the FIR should be given to the victim. The progress of the investigation should be reported. E-FIR can be filed from anywhere.

The charge sheet should be filed within 90 days. The court can grant another 90 days and not more than that
The trial can be conducted even if the accused is absconding.
Victims should be heard before withdrawing cases with sentences of seven years or more.
Death sentence can be commuted to life imprisonment, life imprisonment to seven years and seven years imprisonment to three years only.
Magistrate court trial in trivial cases.
Courts should not summon retired police officers for evidence. Instead the relevant SP information should be provided
Unauthorized custody will be prevented. An officer at each police station to inform the relatives that the accused is in custody
Those with political influence will not be given undue relaxation in punishment
