KOTTAYAM: In a horrid incident, a man attempted to murder a woman in the middle of the road in Kottayam’s Baselius College junction. The incident happened in the wee hours of Friday night as Bindu(40) got attacked and was later admitted to a private hospital with deep wounds in the neck. According to doctors, Bindu is continuing critical.

Kottayam West Police has taken Babu (Chundeli Babu) from Kattappana into custody in connection with the incident. The motive behind the crime is unknown. Police assume that Babu attacked Bindu under the influence of alcohol.

Bindu usually sleeps on the porch of shops adjacent to the junction. Babu and Bindu were in a relationship and might have had a recent tiff which triggered him to this crime. Babu is a habitual offender and was released from jail just two days back.

At the time of the incident, Bindu was sleeping near the floors of the shop while another man named Raju was beside her eating food. Babu first attacked Raju and later turned his attention towards Bindu after Raju escaped in fear. According to onlookers, he stabbed Bindu multiple times in the neck.
