padmanabha-temple-treasur

Recently, certain members of the Kerala assembly mooted plans to create a museum for displaying the treasures in Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Chiefly, it was former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran who raised this issue during the presentation of the bill regarding the Sri Pandaravaka Land Amendment Act.

Kadakampally was of the opinion that a museum will serve as an opportunity for the public to witness the legendary treasures safely secluded for centuries inside the temple in the capital city. However, the BJP president chided the plans and said the public will kick the CPM- Congress leaders to the Arabian Sea if any such plans developed to fruition. Congress leader Anilkumar initially supported Kadakampally but shrewdly withdrew after discerning how such a move could invite the ire of devotees. And now, the Travancore royal family have opened up about their take on the issue.

The treasures and valuables inside the vault should not go beyond the walls of the temple. All these valuables have reached the lord as offering from different lands. We can't accept the idea of turning all these valuables into something of a tourist attraction. There are many temples in India with ornate jewellery and treasures. Just have a look at Tirupati. Nobody wanted any museum there. It is respect to the devotion that has been passed to generations since ages.” Opined Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bayi.
