THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: General Administration Department has instructed that the flag code should be strictly followed on occasions of using the national flag in the state. The national flag should be hand-made or machine-made using cotton, polyester, yarn, silk or khadi.

The national flag should be rectangular in shape. Length and height should be in a 3:2 ratio. The flag should be placed in such a way as to command respect and dignity. Damaged or dirty flags should not be used. The national flag should not be hoisted on a flagpole along with other flags. No other flags should be placed higher than the national flag.

Individuals, private institutions and educational institutions can hoist the national flag every day. It can also be used on special occasions and celebrations but the dignity and respect of the national flag should be maintained.

Clause (xi) paragraph 2.2 Part-II of the Flag Code, 2002 was amended on 20th July 2022 to allow the display of the national flag in public places and private houses both day and night. The Flag Code also states that the national flag should not be used on vehicles other than those mentioned in Part III of Section 9 of the Flag Code.
