WAYANAD: Nine-year-old female elephant 'Ammu' in Muthanga elephant camp died on Saturday morning. She was under treatment for an infection.
Ammu is a female baby elephant that got caught in the current from Kanjirakolli river in Kannur Srikanthapuram forest section years ago. The baby elephant was rescued by the local people. After that, the baby elephant was taken into the custody of the forest department and brought to Thaliparamb forest range office and from there to the elephant camp in Muthanga.
Ammu was the first baby elephant to reach Muthanga elephant camp after many years. Ammu was about to begin her preliminary training at this Kumki elephant training camp when she fell ill. The body will be buried after post-mortem in the presence of forest department officials.
